The Commercial Manager will be responsible for overseeing production and control of project financials in order to minimise the costs of the tender return, enhance margins and increase value, while still achieving the required standards and specification.

 

Working closely with the Lead Designer, Technical Services Manager and the bid team on specification selection, the QS will take ownership of ensuring that costs are competitive, margins are healthy and commercial risk is minimised.

Senior Health & Safety Manager - Doncaster, South Yorkshire - c£50K-£70K plus benefits

Our client is an established and experienced railway infrastructure contractor. They have a successful track record of delivering projects across the whole of the UK; working with Network Rail, London Underground as well as light rail and tram operating companies to enhance the national infrastructure.

 

Job Summary

This role will involve:

  • Proactively promote HSQE best practice throughout Major Projects and established accident & incident prevention strategies throughout the managerial/supervisory/workforce levels (including contractors) across the alliance as directed by the alliance management team.
  • Work with the managerial/supervisory teams across the business in the implementation of HSQE standards and procedures necessary to ensure compliance with the Railway Safety Certification & Principal Contractors / Rail Plant Company Operating licenses, ISO standards, current applicable legislation and other client requirements.
  • Provide professional HSQE advice, coaching, mentoring, training and education to management/supervisors/HSQE team/workforce and contractors where identified as necessary.
  • In conjunction with managerial and supervisory staff manage and close out all associated investigation recommendations and remedial actions arising from accident & incident investigations. In addition assist in the management of formal investigation recommendations and remedial actions as directed by the alliance management team.

Job Requirements

You will be self-motivated with a pro-active approach and have experience of working under pressure and meeting tight deadlines. Problem solving, communication and good interpersonal skills are a key requirement for this role. The candidate will also ideally have the following:

 

Experience/skill set:

  • Previous experience in an Health and Safety role.
  • Previous experience in managing a team.
  • Hold a degree in Occupational Health & Safety or equivalent.
  • Holding CMIOSH would be advantageous.
  • Have working knowledge of both rail and civil engineering interfaces and practices.

Senior Quantity Surveyor - Cardiff - c£45K plus benefits

The Senior Quantity Surveyor will be responsible for the management of projects, budget preparation and estimates, progress reports, final account preparation, client interaction and attending various design team / site meetings.

 

As a Senior member of the Quantity Surveying Team the Senior QS will have responsibility for direction of the function in relation to relevant projects; as a result of which the Senior QS must be commercially aware, with a high level of commitment, initiative and enthusiasm.

 

In addition the job holder will also be responsible for the day to day operational oversight of the key business areas including, responsibility for liaising with and promoting cooperation with other functions, effectively assisting the QS Director and the management of intermediate and junior surveyors as required.

 

Principle Duties & Accountabilities

  • Liaising and reporting to the Quantity Surveying Director, the Project Director and the Contracts Manager.
  • Liasing with the Design Team to ensure requirements and specifications are met
  • Develop and maintain relationships with Client Representatives to support the activities and maintain positive relations on behalf of the company
